Digestive Aids & Probiotics

Digestion is the act or process of converting food into chemical substances that can be absorbed into the blood and utilized by the body.
Sometimes our body may not make ample digestive enzymes, as we get older or when our diet is lacking in the vitamins and minerals needed to make these enzymes.
In these circumstances, supplementing with ready-made enzymes may help support healthy digestion.
Some examples of digestive enzymes are: Amylase, Betaine HCI, Bromelain, Invertase, Lactase, Lipase, Preotease.
The term ‘probiotic’ is derived from the Greek and literally means ‘for life’.
Probiotics have many uses in maintaining health, IBS, constipation, flatulence, diarrhoea, lactose intolerance and treatment of high cholesterol, to name a few.
In the elderly it’s even more important to use probiotics, since the amount of colonic bacteria decreases with age. The same is probably true for those under continuous stress.
Studies suggest that probiotic bacteria such as lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacteria strains help control the colonies of the harmful intestinal bacteria and fungi, promote intestinal immune system health and ensure healthy bowel ecology.
